How to Get Money for Emergency Vet Bills

You love your pet. You do everything right by them and take them to the vet for routine checkups and vaccinations. Even with all of the care you give your pet and the preventative measures you take, illnesses or accidents can still occur. The costs of these emergency vet bills are sometimes far beyond what you can afford, and can leave you panicking over what to do. You don’t need to suffer financially to provide your pet with the emergency care it needs. There are plenty of ways to get the money you need to pay for emergency vet bills.

Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding is a relatively new online phenomenon. There are numerous websites that provide a platform for you to raise money via donations from people all over the globe. Popular websites include GoFundMe, Give Forward and YouCaring. These crowdfunding pages allow you to create a personalized page to raise the money you need. You can add pictures of your pet and tell a bit about your situation. Anyone who comes across your page can then donate to your cause. Some sites charge a small percentage of what you fundraise others are absolutely free.

Specific Charities

There are numerous charities out there that exist both locally and nationally who offer grants to cover emergency medical care. All you have to do is look. Many charities are breed specific. This means that they are only available to pet owners of specific breeds. Some of these charities include CorgiAid, LabMed and Special Needs Dobermans. Other charities are disease-specific. These include charities such as Canine Cancer Awareness, Helping Harley Fund and Muffin Diabetes Fund.

General Charities

There are also a significant number of charities that offer assistance regardless of breed, disease or species. A couple of the most well-known charities include RedRover, The Pet Fund and Brown Dog Foundation. RedRover offers immediate financial assistance. Their grants range between $150 and $200 on average. The Pet Fund offers assistance for chronic conditions. The Brown Dog Foundation was created to help pets who have been diagnosed with an illness that is likely to respond well to treatment, but their owners do not have the funds to cover the bills.

Credit

CareCredit is similar to a credit card except that it is designed to help you pay for out of pocket medical expenses. It also has special financing options not available through your regular credit card. CareCredit is unique in that it covers medical expenses for both people and pets. There are several vets throughout the country that accept it.

One of the best features of CareCredit is they offer you flexibility. You can use the card whenever you need to pay for your pet’s medical needs. It covers everything from routine care, such as wellness visits and vaccines, to emergency expenses and surgeries. You have to apply for CareCredit as you would a traditional credit card, and need to make minimum monthly payments. It is also important to know that not all vets accept CareCredit.

Loans

You can take out a traditional personal loan to pay for your pet’s medical bills. There are a few different options available. An unsecured personal loan allows you to take out a loan without collateral but the interest rates tend to be higher. You also need to have a good credit score. Secured personal loans require some form of collateral. Another type of loan is known as a marketplace loan. This type of loan is funded by individuals who are interested in funding loans as an investment. Interest rates and fees vary based on your credit score.

There are also loans that are pet specific, such as PetLoans and Medical Financing. PetLoans offers loans from $1,000 to $35,000 and  include an 8% origination fee. The interest rate varies based on your credit score, credit history and loan amount. Medical Financing helps people and pets. They have fixed financing terms and fixed interest rates. Applications are promised to be processed quickly, and the loans are good for up to 4 days after the original date of approval.

Your pets are beloved members of your family. You want to provide them with the best care possible. Thanks to plenty of available options, you can afford the care your pet needs when an emergency arrives.
