How to Finance Dental Implants

Feb 16 2018 Parent Category I

Dental implants are an increasingly popular solution to replacing missing teeth. They provide an alternative to traditional treatments such as bridges and dentures. These restorations use titanium posts to support replacement teeth with the posts being surgically implanted into your jawbone. Implants provide a permanent solution to tooth loss and provide numerous benefits over traditional treatments, which is what makes them so popular. They are, however, more expensive. Depending upon the number of teeth that are being replaced, implants can range from a couple thousand dollars to several thousand dollars. Many insurance plans will not cover implants, or will only cover a portion of the procedure. If you are interested in getting dental implants, there are ways that you can finance the cost.

In-House Financing

One of the ways you can finance your dental implants is directly through the billing department of your dental office. You will first need to check to make sure that the office offers this option. You can work with the billing office to determine a payment plan that works well for you. Some offices may require a financing fee be added to the cost of your dental implants. A major benefit to this option is that there is no credit check necessary.

Personal Loans

You could opt to get a personal loan from a bank. Personal loans can be used for a variety of different things, including dental work and implants. There are two types of personal loans, secured and unsecured. A secured personal loan requires a form of collateral that can be repossessed in the event that you do not make your payments. An unsecured loan does not require collateral, which does often make restrictions tighter. Your credit score plays an important role in your ability to get a personal loan, and will play a role in determining your interest rate.

Peer to Peer Loans

Peer to peer loans offer an alternative to traditional bank loans. Money is provided by investors rather than bankers. You post a listing with how much money you need and the reason that you need it. Potential investors are able to review posts and determine which ones meet their criteria. If they choose yours, you are screened before the money is provided. Your credit score will play a part in determining terms such as your interest rates and your fees. Even if your credit score is not stellar, many peer to peer lenders may be willing to work with you over a traditional bank.

Credit Card

If you do not already have outstanding credit card (or other) debt, you may be able to finance your dental implants using your credit card. Most dental offices accept credit cards. If you have a card that provides you with rewards, such as points or miles, you can at least earn a little extra something in the process.

If you have a good credit score, another option is to open a brand-new credit card that offers an interest-free introductory period. Cards with this option often offer anywhere from 6 to 18 months without paying any interest. If you choose to go this route, make sure that you will be able to pay off the entire balance within the interest-free period. After this period is over, the interest rate kicks in. Some cards add in all of the interest that you would have paid throughout the introductory period. Others only charge interest on what is remaining. Using a credit card should be considered carefully and you should take the time to research your options if you wish to go with this method.

CareCredit

CareCredit provides an alternative to a traditional credit card. It enables you to pay for out of pocket medical and dental expenses that are not covered by insurance, including treatment fees, co-pays, deductibles and anything else that may not be listed in your insurance plan. Applying is easy, and can be done right through their website. The approval response is almost instant and after you have applied the card can be used again and again.

CareCredit offers several repayment options. You can repay in 6, 12, 18 or 24 months with no interest on services over $200 so long as you pay off the full balance within the specified terms. You can also opt for longer financing terms (up to 60 months) with a reduced APR and fixed monthly payments. You will need to make sure that your provider accepts CareCredit before choosing this option.

Dental implants are an excellent option for replacing missing teeth. By financing the cost, you can ease the burden of the price tag and pay them off over time. This way, you get to enjoy the many benefits that dental implants have to offer and not break the bank at the same time.
